About

I started this when I realised I wasn’t as involved as I wanted to be with my children’s schooling. And I don’t just mean helping with homework. I am interested in how education policy is delivered at the coalface. That entails at least some understanding of how the system works. One thing that strikes me about the implementation of public policy is how the policy changes shape as it travels along the pathway toward implementation. By the time the ’street level bureaucrats’ deliver the policy it is often unrecognisable.  The notion of ’street ‘level’ comes from Lipsky’s work on the implementation of public policy.

There are two main tiers to the education system. The curriculum and teaching – which is obviously very important -  and administration. Both tiers are inextricably linked. Accountability and transparency are paramount when the State and parents fund the education system.

I hope I can contribute.
